Sometimes, after you build a drone like a 5" freestyle drone, of course you want to fly outside to test it and enjoy your flight. But novices didn't have much knowledge of the FPV drone, like the local policy, weather, signal or more influence aspects. There are some tips hope can help you to avoid some flight troubles.
Environment
- Local policy
Before your flight, maybe you can check your local policy. Now more and more regions need the certificate, and limits your flight height. In the USA, for example, the drone weighs over 250g, which needs you to get an FAA certificate and remote module, and the flight height can't be over 120m. And more recommend you fly in some large space, and before the flight, please far away your drone to ensure your safety.
- Weather
More recommend you fly on a sunny day without wind. If have small rain or thick fog, please take some measures to waterproof your drone. Like conformal coating your electronic products.
- Signal
When your drone is built with GPS, not recommended you fly in a place with too many buildings, it will shield the GPS signal and easily cause your drone to crash.
Check your equipment
Before flying, please check your drone first.
- Check the motor spin normally (Recommend you remove the props when you test)
- Check your drone and remote controller with the full battery. (The battery will be shown fake when it in a lower temperature)
- Open your antenna, and adjust your antenna position, to ensure your drone with a good signal
- Ensure your drone is in a horizon place, then power on your drone (First you can open the remote controller)
- More recommend opening the black box function to record your flight. When your drone with some issues, the black box data can help you check and analyze your drone more quickly and conveniently.
Check your flight
- After taking off, it is recommended to keep the drone hovering for 30 seconds to observe the flight stability and make sure there are no abnormalities before continuing the flight.
- Recommend you always pay attention to the current battery during flight, and immediately return when the battery is low. If you fly in winter (with the low temperature), it is recommended to prepare a hand warmer in advance to heat the battery to about 25 degrees, then install the battery and start to fly. Because batteries drain faster when they are colder.
After flight
- When you finish your flight, maybe you can power off your drone first, then turn off the remote controller.
- After the drone lands, the battery temperature is high, so do not charge it immediately.
- Remember to charge and discharge the drone's battery regularly, otherwise the battery is prone to damage.
